Hillclimb returns to Cape Town after 6 decades

Welcome to the inaugural Speed Classic Cape Town: The ultimate celebration of motoring culture, where legendary machines and next-gen performance share the spotlight in an unforgettable fusion of heritage, innovation, and style.

This is more than just a race – it is a two-day lifestyle experience that blends the thrill and the elegance of motoring culture and community, all set against Cape Town’s most iconic backdrop.

Set against one of the world’s most iconic backdrops, this brand new event marks the thrilling rebirth of competitive hillclimb racing in the Mother City — a crowd-pleasing pre- and post-war tradition that started in 1912 and saw competitors showing off their cars and skills on Camps Bay Drive, Signal Hill Road and Kloof Road. The last Camps Bay hillclimb was reportedly held in 1962.

Now, over six decades later, history will roar back to life.

The Route

The hillclimb time trial format is designed to find the true master of the mountain, as you watch some of SA’s top drivers go head-to-head against a full grid of competitors in their class.

With cars launching every 30 seconds, every moment and every input counts. This is where the best of the best will be honoured with Class Champion Trophies, Podium Honours and the Ultimate Crown of King of the Mountain. 

It is all happening on Philip Kgosana Drive at the foot of Table Mountain, and you are invited.

Fan Zone

Scrumptious snacks, a kids’ zone, bars, a big screen showing the racing action, and awesome displays… the Fan Zone is the place to chill when you’re not watching the racing action up close.
